Lacrimosa Team Guide
The Nightmare Collector stacks Chaos DoT and fires them all at once. Lacrimosa builds up to 10 Nightmare stacks on enemies, then her 5th Normal Attack burst-fires every single one simultaneously — amplified by The Last Rose's Chaos Thorn stacks, Baicang's Scorch trigger, and A6's free cycle window.

Ratings
Strengths
- Best multi-target DoT DPS in the current roster — Nightmare hits every enemy simultaneously
- The Last Rose arc generates +60% CRIT DMG passively during active combat via Chaos Thorn stacks
- A3 burst-fires all Nightmare stacks at once — the damage is concentrated and predictable
- Off-field Nightmare ticks deal damage while allies are on field — strong rotation efficiency
- A5 prevents Nightmare removal on enemy heals — strong against self-healing bosses
- Diabolos 4-piece: ignores 24% DEF against Broken enemies — excellent with Daffodill's Break
Weaknesses
- DoT requires ramp time — short fights (< 10s per phase) heavily penalise Nightmare builds
- A6 rotation requires Baicang specifically — the full output depends on his Scorch trigger
- The Last Rose is a banner pull — without it, Chaos Thorn stacks are unavailable
- A6 timing (5s window) needs practice — missing the swap window loses the free cycle
- Nightmare stacks are individual timers — A4 (6s duration) is needed for rotation safety
Gameplay — The Nightmare Engine
Lacrimosa's damage loop has two phases: the stack phase (applying Nightmare via Skills and Ultimate) and the burst phase (firing all stacks at once on the 5th Normal Attack hit). Understanding both phases and how they interact with The Last Rose is the key to playing her well.
What is Nightmare?
Each Nightmare is an independent Chaos DoT (damage-over-time) applied to the target. Stacks up to 10 — each ticks Chaos DMG every 3s (6s with A4). On retrigger, the stack timer refreshes. A3 (Molten Ice Cream) fires all accumulated stacks simultaneouslyon the 5th hit of Tomato Metal or Tomato Percussion — instead of waiting for each to tick individually. With A1's +50% DMG ratio and 10 stacks active, that 5th hit moment represents the peak damage of the entire rotation.
How The Last Rose amplifies everything
Each Nightmare DoT tick generates 1 Chaos Thorn stack (+6% CRIT DMG, max 10, 3s timer, refreshes on retrigger). Casting Devilish Gift (Redirect Skill) instantly grants 10 Chaos Thorn stacks — full CRIT DMG bonus from the first second of the burst window. At 10 stacks: +60% CRIT DMG, active continuously as long as Nightmare ticks keep refreshing the timer. This synergy means every Nightmare tick simultaneously deals damage AND reinforces the CRIT DMG multiplier for the next A3 burst.
The three burst layers
Devilish Gift (Redirect Skill) — arc trigger + A6 window
Cast as the first action of every rotation. Generates 10 Chaos Thorn stacks instantly (The Last Rose), starts the 5s A6 Morning Spell window, and sets up Baicang's Scorch trigger sequence.
5th Normal Attack hit (A3 Molten Ice Cream) — burst fire
All accumulated Nightmare stacks fire simultaneously. This is the main damage moment. Always complete the 5-hit chain — cutting it at 4 hits means zero stacks burst this rotation.
Working Day Judgement (Ultimate) — 10-hit reload
10 Chaos DMG instances plus fresh Nightmare stacks applied to all targets. Cast after the A3 burst to immediately begin building the next rotation's stack count.
Key rules
- Always complete the 5-hit Normal Attack chain — A3 only fires on the 5th hit. Swapping after 4 hits loses the entire burst.
- Cast Devilish Gift FIRST — not Morning Tomato. Only the Redirect Skill form triggers A6 and The Last Rose's instant Thorn stacks.
- Return to Lacrimosa FROM Baicang — A6 only triggers if the character you swap from can trigger Scorch, Nova, or Discord. Haniel and Daffodill alone won't trigger it.
Lacrimosa — Skill Priority
Uses the Truck during Tomato Metal mode — deals 10 independent instances of Chaos DMG to an area and inflicts Nightmare on all targets hit. Each Nightmare stack ticks Chaos DMG every 3s (6s with A4). Because each hit is calculated separately, CRIT Rate matters on every single one. Upgrade this first — it scales all 10 hit instances and determines how many Nightmare stacks land per rotation.
Two forms of the same skill slot. Morning Tomato (standard): throws Esper Ability Constructs, deals Chaos DMG, and applies Nightmare. Devilish Gift (Redirect Skill): creates copies of ally Esper abilities and simulates their attacks — this is the form that activates the 5s A6 window when cast before swapping to a Scorch or Discord ally. Think of it as: Devilish Gift is the 'trigger' and Morning Tomato is the 'damage' — both level together.
Two 5-hit combos — Tomato Metal (Frying Pan swings) and Tomato Percussion (Red Jelly manipulation), both dealing Chaos DMG. The critical detail: A3 (Molten Ice Cream) triggers ALL accumulated Nightmare stacks simultaneously on the 5th hit of either combo. Always complete the 5th hit before swapping out — that's when the full DoT burst fires.
1 instance of Chaos DMG on swap-in. Lowest upgrade priority — contributes only at the moment Lacrimosa enters the field. Level last after the three core skills.
The Nightmare system foundation: Lacrimosa's attacks inflict Nightmare on enemies. Each stack is an independent DoT that ticks Chaos DMG every 3s. Stacks can accumulate up to 10 and each refreshes its timer on retrigger. This passive defines Lacrimosa's entire kit — the more stacks she applies and the longer they tick, the higher her sustained output.
Generates Chaos Thorn stacks when The Last Rose arc is equipped — each Nightmare DoT tick produces a Thorn stack (+6% CRIT DMG per stack, max 10, 3s duration, refreshes on retrigger). At 10 stacks, this passive alone adds +60% CRIT DMG during active combat. This synergy is why The Last Rose is the BiS arc: it turns every Nightmare tick into a stacking CRIT amplifier.
Upgrade order: Ultimate → Skill → Normal Attack → Chain / Passives. Ultimate scales all 10 Nightmare stacks applied per cast. Skill scales both Morning Tomato and Devilish Gift. Normal Attack scales the A3 burst damage indirectly via the 5th-hit trigger.
Awakenings
Triggers all accumulated Nightmare effects simultaneously when the 5th hit of Tomato Metal or Tomato Percussion lands. This is Lacrimosa's primary burst window — instead of waiting for each stack to tick individually over time, the 5th Normal Attack fires them all at once in a single burst. With 10 stacks and A1's +50% DMG ratio, this one moment delivers the bulk of a rotation's damage.
+50% Nightmare DMG Ratio — effectively a 1.5× multiplier on every single Nightmare instance. Since A3 burst-fires all stacks at once, A1 multiplies the total burst damage directly. This is the most impactful single awakening — skip it and Lacrimosa's burst window loses half its ceiling.
Allows Lacrimosa to automatically cast her Support Skill and trigger the corresponding Esper Cycle without spending Cycle Rate when switching back to her from a Scorch, Nova, or Discord character within 5s of casting Devilish Gift. In practice: cast Devilish Gift → swap to Baicang (Scorch) → swap back to Lacrimosa → Support Skill auto-fires + free cycle trigger. This gives a free damage contribution every rotation with no Cycle Rate cost.
+15% damage dealt for 15s when Lacrimosa switches in via a Support Skill. A6's auto Support Skill swap-in triggers A2 consistently — so every rotation where A6 fires gives Lacrimosa +15% DMG for the full Normal Attack + Ultimate window. A2 and A6 together are a package: unlock both or neither.
Extends Nightmare duration to 6s (default is 3s). Each stack now has twice as long to tick before expiring — critical for rotation flexibility. Without A4, stacks expire between swap windows if the rotation runs long. With A4, there's room to complete the full team setup before Lacrimosa's A3 burst fires.
Prevents Nightmare stacks from being removed when the target is healed, and reduces the target's Max HP by 200% of a single Nightmare instance's damage. The HP reduction amplifies the relative damage contribution of every subsequent hit. Particularly strong in content where bosses self-heal or have recovery mechanics — Nightmare stacks survive those windows.
+1 skill level to Sweet and Sour, Morning Tomato, Devilish Gift, and Working Day Judgement. A flat power increase that compounds well at high investment — unlock after A1–A6 are secured.
Lacrimosa's damage ignores 10% of the target's DEF. Stacks with Diabolos 4-piece DEF ignore bonuses — final priority unlock after all other awakenings.
Priority order:A3 → A1 → A6 → A2 → A4 → A5 → A7 → A8. A3 and A1 together define the burst ceiling: without A3, there is no simultaneous burst; without A1, the burst deals half damage. A6 and A2 form a second package — A6 enables A2's consistent activation. A4 is critical for rotation safety (prevents stacks from expiring between turns). A5 and A7–A8 are quality-of-life.
Arc
BiS for Lacrimosa's Nightmare DoT build. R1: +14% ATK + generates 1 Chaos Thorn stack per Nightmare DoT tick dealt (+6% CRIT DMG per stack, max 10, refreshes on retrigger) + instantly generates 10 Chaos Thorn stacks when Lacrimosa casts a Redirect Skill (Devilish Gift) + extends enemy Broken state by 3s. At max Thorn stacks, +60% CRIT DMG is active continuously during combat — every Nightmare tick refreshes the stacks. The Redirect Skill trigger gives instant full stacks at the start of the burst window, before the first Nightmare even ticks.
Strong ATK-based passive with unconditional uptime — a valid alternative if The Last Rose is unavailable or if you prefer an arc that doesn't depend on Nightmare ticks staying active. No Chaos Thorn interaction — straightforward ATK% boost that scales every hit equally.
4-star Liquid budget option. Solid CRIT Rate sub-stat helps hit the 60–70% floor without sub-stat pressure. Use until a 5-star Liquid arc is pulled — the gap to The Last Rose is significant but it's a playable placeholder.
Cassette Set & Stats
- 2-piece: Chaos DMG +10%
- 4-piece: Ignores 12% DEF. Further ignores 12% DEF against Broken enemies (total 24%)
Both bonuses are direct amplifiers for Lacrimosa's Nightmare DoT. The 2-piece adds to every Chaos hit. The 4-piece synergises with Daffodill's Break gauge reduction — once the enemy is Broken, all of Lacrimosa's A3 burst hits benefit from the additional 12% DEF ignore, pushing total DEF ignore to 24% during that window. Combined with A8 (10% DEF ignore at full investment), the set reaches 34% DEF ignore vs Broken targets.

Team — Who Does What
Lacrimosa · ChaosMain DPS
The carry. Lacrimosa stacks up to 10 Nightmare DoTs, then fires them all simultaneously on her 5th Normal Attack hit (A3). Her on-field time is short: cast Devilish Gift, do the 5-hit chain, cast Ultimate, swap. The bulk of her contribution is the A3 burst moment + the off-field Nightmare ticks that accumulate while allies act.
Baicang · IncantationScorch Trigger (A6)
The A6 enabler. Baicang's Skill triggers the Scorch Esper Cycle, which qualifies him as the A6 swap partner — switching back to Lacrimosa FROM Baicang within 5s of casting Devilish Gift auto-fires her Support Skill and gives a free cycle trigger. A6 + A2 together add +15% DMG for 15s every rotation at no Cycle Rate cost. Baicang is the pivot that makes this rotation's full output possible.
Daffodill · ChaosDiscord + Break
The Break enabler. Daffodill's Skill triggers the Discord Esper Cycle and reduces the enemy's Break gauge. Once the enemy is Broken, Diabolos's 4-piece kicks in: an additional 12% DEF ignore on top of the base 12% — total 24% DEF ignoreagainst Broken targets. The Discord cycle also provides its own damage contribution independent of Lacrimosa's Nightmare.
Haniel · PsycheDamage Boost
The damage amplifier. Haniel's Support Skill deploys an off-field Damage Boost aura that benefits all of Lacrimosa's hits — the A3 burst, the 10 Ultimate instances, and the Nightmare DoT ticks that follow. He operates almost entirely off-field once deployed. Replace with Edgar (Healer) if sustain is needed in harder content.
Why this composition works
Each member solves a different problem. Baicang enables A6's free cycle and locks in A2's +15% DMG window. Daffodill's Break unlocks Diabolos 4-piece's bonus DEF ignore during the A3 burst. Haniel's Damage Boost aura multiplies both the burst moment and the off-field DoT ticks. Together, they maximise Lacrimosa's two output phases: the instant A3 burst and the sustained Nightmare stream between rotations.
Lacrimosa — Nightmare DoT Main DPS
Rotation
Lacrimosa — Devilish Gift (start A6 window)
Cast Skill in its Redirect form (Devilish Gift) to start the 5s A6 Morning Spell window. This also begins the Nightmare DoT cycle and triggers 10 instant Chaos Thorn stacks via The Last Rose's Redirect Skill effect. Swap immediately after.
Baicang — Scorch trigger → swap back to Lacrimosa
Cast Baicang's Skill to trigger the Scorch Esper Cycle, then swap back to Lacrimosa within the 5s A6 window. On re-entry, Morning Spell auto-fires Lacrimosa's Support Skill and triggers the Esper Cycle for free (no Cycle Rate cost). A2 Rise and Shine is now active: +15% DMG for 15s. Swap out immediately to Daffodill.
Daffodill — Discord trigger + Break
Cast Daffodill's Skill to apply Discord Esper Cycle and reduce the target's Break gauge. Swap after.
Haniel — Damage Boost aura
Cast Support Skill for the off-field Damage Boost aura. Swap after. The aura persists once deployed.
Lacrimosa — A3 burst + Ultimate
With Nightmare stacks accumulated and The Last Rose at max Chaos Thorns, complete a 5-hit Normal Attack chain (Tomato Metal or Tomato Percussion). The 5th hit triggers A3 Molten Ice Cream — all Nightmare stacks burst-fire simultaneously. Then cast Ultimate (Working Day Judgement) to deal 10 Chaos DMG instances and reload fresh Nightmare stacks for the next rotation.
A6 timing note:The 5s window starts the moment Devilish Gift is cast. If Baicang's Skill animation takes too long, the window closes before the swap back — practice the timing in lower-stakes content. The swap sequence is: Lacrimosa (Devilish Gift) → Baicang (Skill) → Lacrimosa (A6 auto fires) → swap to Daffodill. The auto Support Skill fires instantly on re-entry and does not require any input.

Pull for her if…
- You want sustained, off-field DoT damage that accumulates between your burst windows
- You own Baicang — his Scorch trigger is essential for the A6 Morning Spell rotation
- Multi-target and AoE content is your main activity — Nightmare hits all enemies simultaneously
- You enjoy a build that scales with investment: more Nightmare stacks, more Chaos Thorn stacks, higher ceiling
- Boss content where enemies survive long enough for DoT to tick and accumulate (Nightmare rewards staying power)
- You want a Chaos DPS who pairs well with Daffodill's Discord and Break support
Skip if…
- You need burst DPS for fast phases — DoT requires ramp time before dealing peak damage
- You don't own Baicang — A6's Scorch trigger is the cornerstone of the rotation
- Content kills enemies before Nightmare stacks can tick (short fights heavily penalize DoT)
- You already have a strong Chaos DPS and are looking for a different element
- The Last Rose arc is not available — the gap between BiS and the alternatives is significant at high investment
Lacrimosa is the premier sustained Chaos DPS in NTE — a DoT specialist whose burst moment (A3 burst-fire + A1 ×1.5 ratio) delivers concentrated damage while her off-field Nightmare ticks maintain pressure between rotations. The build has a clear BiS configuration (The Last Rose + Diabolos 4-piece + Baicang for A6) and a high ceiling that scales well with awakening investment. The main execution demands are the A6 5s swap window and always completing the 5-hit Normal Attack chain before swapping out. If you own Baicang and The Last Rose, this team is among the most consistent high-damage compositions available for multi-target and sustained boss content.
