Film-MANISH — Brand Anniversary

One of the hardest anomalies in the game to find. The actual fight is a clean 3-star boss; the trick is the underground tunnel hidden behind a parking lot railing near Wertheimer Tower. This guide walks the route and breaks down every Film-MANISH attack tell.

TL;DR — 5 Steps

  1. Teleport to Wertheimer TowerUse the fast-travel point in Unheard Shores. The anomaly marker on the map only shows a rough zone — the real entrance is below ground level.
  2. Find the hidden tunnelTurn left, run to the parking lot, jump the railing behind the red car, float down to the road. The tunnel entrance is right there.
  3. Bring a Cosmos teamFilm-MANISH is weak to Cosmos. The standard recommendation is Nanally / Hathor / Zero / Edgar — same comp that clears most mid-Hunter content.
  4. Parry phase 1, dodge phase 2Slam and spin attacks are parry windows. Tentacle slam and the frontal laser in phase 2 must be dodged — they have predictive lines.
  5. Re-run on High-RiskAfter the first clear and reaching Hunter Level 24, the High-Risk version is repeatable for the Peril Hunt Medal and extra Annulith.

How to Find the Entrance

Brand Anniversary is flagged on the world map only after a vague anomaly ping triggers in Unheard Shores. The actual entry point sits below ground level and the in-game navigation will not route you there. Follow this sequence exactly:

  1. Open the world map and fast-travel to Wertheimer Tower (Unheard Shores).
  2. From the teleport landing animation, turn left and head toward the upper parking lot.
  3. Identify the red car parked near the perimeter railing — it's the visual anchor for the route.
  4. Walk behind the red car and jump over the metal railing.
  5. Float down using your descent animation — aim for the road that runs below the parking lot.
  6. Land next to the tunnel mouth on the right side of the road.
  7. Enter the tunnel and continue forward in a straight line.
  8. Roughly halfway through the tunnel, watch the right wall for a maintenance station / service door.
  9. Take a vehicle if available — driving makes the tunnel much faster, especially on repeat runs. You can commandeer an NPC car in a pinch.
  10. Walk through the service door — the boss arena and Film-MANISH spawn trigger fire automatically.

The maintenance door is auto-doored — you cannot back out mid-cutscene. Make sure your team and arc loadout are set before walking through.

Recommended Teams

Standard mid-Hunter team

Nanally main DPS — fits the campaign progression curve

  • NanallyNanallyMain DPS · Anima
  • HathorHathorSub-DPS · Lakshana
  • ZeroZeroSub-DPS · Cosmos
  • EdgarEdgarSupport · Cosmos

Zero + Edgar deliver two Cosmos profiles on the field. Nanally pulls follow-ups, Hathor batteries the burst window.

Remora cycle team

Higher ceiling if you can keep Remora up — better in High-Risk

  • HathorHathorMain DPS · Lakshana
  • ZeroZeroSub-DPS · Cosmos
  • SkiaSkiaSub-DPS · Cosmos
  • EdgarEdgarSupport · Cosmos

Three Cosmos profiles + Hathor's Lakshana burst trigger Remora repeatedly. Use Skia or Zero to apply Remora, then swap Hathor for the burst.

Film-MANISH Attack Pattern

Film-MANISH does not have HP-percent phase gates — Phase 2 starts after a scripted cutscene midway through the fight when tentacles emerge. Attack count and pacing remain the same; the new moves layer on top of Phase 1.

Sweeping slam

Phase 1Parry

Tell: Both arms raise vertically before crashing forward in an arc.

Generous parry window. Use the parry to refill your Critical Dodge resource — the burst window opens here.

Spin attack

Phase 1Parry

Tell: The boss leans, then rotates 360° with extended arms.

Step back or position behind for a safer parry. Hit on the rear arc and you can free-cast follow-ups.

Thrown projectiles

Phase 1Dodge or destroy

Tell: Pulls a film canister from its body before lobbing it.

Projectiles can be shot down mid-air. Saves a dodge if you're keeping a Cosmos sub-DPS on the field.

Tentacle slam

Phase 2Dodge sideways

Tell: Tentacles erupt from the floor in a perpendicular line aimed at the player.

The slam tracks for the first 0.3 s, then locks. Dodge perpendicular to the indicator line.

Frontal laser

Phase 2Dodge through

Tell: Predictive line snaps onto the player. Slows movement on hit.

Roll forward — i-frames carry through. Walking around the edge is too slow because of the movement slow.

Rewards

First clear (commission)

  • Hunter EXP
  • Annulith (commission completion)
  • Fons
  • Beetle Coins
  • Silver Carrota
  • Achievement: Snap! Don't Blink!

High-Risk (repeatable)

  • Annulith (larger payout)
  • Fons
  • Peril Hunt Medal (gated to High-Risk only)
  • Repeatable weekly — best Annulith source from a hidden anomaly

No Arc reward. Film-MANISH does not drop a signature S-Rank Arc. The unique payoff is the Peril Hunt Medal from the High-Risk version, used elsewhere in the Hunter progression track. If you're chasing free S-Rank Arcs, prioritise commissions like Ride Assault (Raging Flames) or Rhythm Master (Blow up the Crowd) instead.

Pro Tips & Common Pitfalls

  • The map marker for Brand Anniversary will not pinpoint the actual entrance. Trust the parking-lot → railing → float-down route rather than the navmesh autopath.
  • Bring at least one parry-friendly DPS. Phase 1 is gift-wrapped for parries — wasting the openings extends the fight unnecessarily and exposes you to Phase 2 attacks.
  • Film-MANISH has no scripted heal phase, but its tentacle slam can chain-cast if you stand still after a parry. Move between attacks even when you're winning the burst window.
  • On High-Risk, the boss adds attack frequency and damage but the moveset stays the same. Practice the dodge windows on the normal version first, then re-run for the Peril Hunt Medal.
  • Cosmos is the recommended element, but Lakshana and Incantation work fine if you don't have a Cosmos main. The Cosmos bonus is a multiplier, not a requirement.
