Sangun SSR
King of Mount Tai, Friend of Nature · Wind · Brawler
Melee Wind Brawler built around counterattacks and Wild Fervor stacks. Sangun pulls enemies into his Tiger's Howl strikes and converts every counter into damage. The second-best Wind carry at launch behind Esther, and the cleanest counter-focused melee in the roster.

Verdict
Sangun is the launch Wind Brawler and the secondary Wind carry behind Esther. His kit is built around counterattacks — landing a counter triggers his Aura of Harmony passive, granting Wild Fervor (the damage stack). His Special (Fearsome Tiger) charges to an enemy at distance, pulling them to him; his BA (Lurking Tiger) adapts range automatically; his Ultimate (Cataclysm) summons a Wind tiger that inflicts Wind Affliction and grants Wind Tiger Strike — a sustained damage state.
The counter mechanic is the skill check. Players who actively position to bait boss attacks and counter cleanly hit his real ceiling; players who just facetank lose 30-40% of his damage. C0 (A Tiger of Culture) already activates Wild Fervor on Special + Ultimate. C1 spreads Wind Tiger Strike to those skills. C3 applies Wild Fervor to Staggered/Bound enemies — turns him into a stagger-burst converter even without a counter window.
Pull him if you have Esther (mono-Wind comp) or want a counter-focused melee. He is the second Wind carry slot — Esther leads, Sangun fills the burst window. Skip if you already pulled Mina or Gabi and want elemental diversity over a third melee Brawler.
Strengths
- Counter mechanic adds skill expression — clean players hit his real ceiling significantly above casual ones.
- Special Skill pulls distant enemies to him — solves the melee Brawler positioning problem.
- Tag-In pull also gathers enemies — built-in AoE setup, no Supporter required for cluster.
- Wind Affliction on Ultimate + Wind Tiger Strike duration = sustained damage profile.
- C3 applies Wild Fervor to Staggered/Bound targets — bypasses counter timing requirement, scales him in any stagger team.
- Pure Wind synergy with Esther + Jiwon — three-Wind core unlocks every Wind set bonus and Affliction stack.
Weaknesses
- Counter-dependent — without a counter window, you lose ~30% of his damage profile.
- Wild Fervor decreases per-strike DMG by -10% but boosts total DMG by 260% (C0) — net positive but harder to read in real-time.
- Melee — takes hits other ranged carries don't. Pair with Francis or Bonnie for sustain.
- Hard-anchored to Wind teams for max value. Mixed-element costs Abyss 4pc + Devourer Stance Affliction stacking.
- Esther outshines him as the primary Wind carry — Sangun is the second slot, not the lead.
- Held Close by Nature (signature) is banner-gated. Frenzied Struggle covers at ~85% efficiency.
Best gear
Sangun's recommended artifact + equipment set, with farmable alternates for F2P.
Alternates
- Frenzied Struggle — SSR Brawler alternate if no signature — Crit DMG stacking on landed attacks. Generic but high baseline; loses the Tigerquake counter scaling.
- Devourer Stance — SR Wind set, F2P bridge. 2pc +5% Wind DMG vs Wind-Afflicted, 4pc team Crit Rate on Support Skill + Crit DMG on Tag-out. Real bridge to Abyss.
- Onsae's Dance — SR generic +5% Crit Rate on Perfect Dodge. Niche pickup that compounds with counter-focused gameplay (dodge = counter setup).
Kit overview
Five abilities. Counters fuel Wild Fervor; Wild Fervor is the damage multiplier.
- SpecialFearsome Tiger
Charges at distant enemies + slams down. Pulls the target to the strike point. Solves the melee Brawler positioning — distant boss is no longer a problem.
- Basic AttackLurking Tiger
Tiger's Howl combo strikes. Adapts movement (in/back) based on enemy range. Generates Ultimate gauge fast (168/hit) — maintain BA uptime for the next Cataclysm.
- PassiveAura of Harmony
Gain Wild Fervor on counterattack. Wild Fervor decreases per-strike DMG by 10% but boosts total damage by 260% (C0) — net massive positive. The counter timing IS the skill check.
- Tag-InTiger Strike
Swap-in: spin + hurl Tiger's Howl forward. AoE Wind + pulls target to him. Same setup utility as the Special. Use Tag-In to enter mid-range bosses already in position.
- UltimateCataclysm
Summons Wind tiger → Airborne KB + Wind Affliction + Wind Tiger Strike state for him. Open every burst window with this; the Wind Tiger Strike state sustains your damage.
Canto priority
C1 is the meaningful jump (Wind Tiger Strike spread); C3 bypasses the counter requirement.
Canto value (in order)
- C1 — Carefree and Casual — Wind Tiger Strike applies to Special + Ultimate. Wild Fervor's damage shape now extends to his big skills, not just BA. Biggest jump in his chart.
- C3 — Sweet Memories — Wild Fervor applies to Staggered or Bound enemies for X seconds. Bypasses the counter timing requirement entirely — turn him into a stagger-burst Brawler that benefits from any Destroyer team. Major scaling.
- C5 — The Immutable Mount Tai — Hold-Special unlocks a spinning Wind AoE + Strike Count increases. Caps his AoE damage ceiling.
- C0 — A Tiger of Culture — Wild Fervor affects Special + Ultimate (per-strike -10%, total +260%). Fully playable counter carry at C0.
- C2 / C4 — flat statsticks — +2 skill levels each. Pickup between meaningful jumps.
How to play him — boss rotation
Five steps. Counter timing is the skill check; positioning is the setup.
- 1. Tag-In (Tiger Strike) for the pull entry — Swap in + pull the boss to you. Establishes melee range without taking the dash hit.
- 2. Basic Attack combo to build Ultimate gauge — Lurking Tiger chains. Maintain BA uptime; the gauge fills fast (168/hit).
- 3. Position to bait + counter for Wild Fervor — Watch the boss's tell. Dodge into the counter window, land the parry, gain Wild Fervor. This is where your damage multiplier comes from.
- 4. Special Skill (Fearsome Tiger) for the pull + strike — Pull a distant boss back to you, charge in. With Held Close by Nature equipped + Wild Fervor stacked, this is the big single-strike window.
- 5. Ultimate (Cataclysm) to apply Wind Affliction + Wind Tiger Strike — Summons Wind tiger → Airborne + Affliction (5s + -15% Wind RES) + Wind Tiger Strike state. C1 spreads this state to your big skills; sustained damage profile.
Should you pull / invest?
Four answers for four player types.
Beginner / new player
Pull only if you have Esther (mono-Wind comp) or want the counter mechanic to learn. He has a moderate skill floor — counter timing matters. If you want a simpler entry, prefer Ophelia or Esther. Pair with Bonnie for the F2P Wind support.
F2P / low spend
Decent pull target if you don't have a Wind carry yet. C0 functional, Abyss craftable, Devourer Stance SR bridge. Without Held Close by Nature, use Frenzied Struggle generic Brawler at ~85% efficiency.
Invested / dolphin
C1 first (Wind Tiger Strike applies to Special + Ultimate — biggest jump). C3 second (Wild Fervor on Stagger/Bind — role flexibility unlock). Stop at C3; C5 is pure AoE scaling.
Endgame / theory-crafter
Second Wind carry slot behind Esther. Stack Crit DMG substats (Wild Fervor + counter timing both pay off on crits). Run Esther + Sangun + Jiwon for the pure-Wind triple-DPS comp — Esther leads, Sangun dumps counter windows, Jiwon enables both.
Teams featuring Sangun
Sangun pairs naturally into Wind teams led by Esther + Jiwon, but C3 unlocks him in any stagger comp.

FAQ

- What is Sangun's best artifact?
- Held Close by Nature — his signature SSR Brawler artifact. Counterattacks grant Tigerquake → Tigerquake Wind DMG stacks. Built around his Aura of Harmony counter loop.
- What is Sangun's best equipment set?
- Abyss (4-piece, SSR Wind). 2pc fires every Fearsome Tiger Special, 4pc maintains uptime through his BA crits. Shared with Esther — Wind team equipment economy scales.
- What is the strongest Sangun team at launch?
- Esther + Sangun + Jiwon (pure Wind triple-DPS). Esther leads, Sangun fills counter windows, Jiwon enables both with cluster pull + Divine Harmony. Mono-Wind for max set bonus / Affliction stacking.
- How do I play Sangun in a boss fight?
- Tag-In (Tiger Strike) for entry pull. BA combo to build gauge. Position to bait boss attacks and counter for Wild Fervor (the damage multiplier). Special (Fearsome Tiger) for distant pulls + big strike. Ultimate (Cataclysm) for Wind Affliction + Wind Tiger Strike sustained state.
- Which Canto should I prioritise for Sangun?
- C1 first (Wind Tiger Strike applies to Special + Ultimate — biggest jump). C3 second (Wild Fervor on Staggered/Bound enemies — bypasses counter requirement, role flexibility). C0 fully playable.
- Can I play Sangun F2P?
- Yes. C0 functional. Abyss craftable; Devourer Stance SR bridge. Without Held Close by Nature use Frenzied Struggle generic Brawler at ~85% efficiency.
- Does Sangun need counters to do damage?
- Yes at C0 — Wild Fervor only procs on counterattacks. The damage shape is per-strike -10% but total +260%, so it's a net massive positive. C3 unlocks Wild Fervor on Staggered/Bound enemies, bypassing the counter requirement entirely.
- Sangun vs. Esther for first Wind pull?
- Esther first — she is the launch S-tier Wind carry and the easier learning curve. Sangun is the second Wind slot behind her; pull him if you have Esther and want to deepen your Wind core, or if you enjoy the counter mechanic over Esther's button-mash Dust Cloud loop.
- What is Wild Fervor and how do I trigger it?
- Wild Fervor is the damage multiplier passive granted by Aura of Harmony when Sangun counterattacks. Each strike inside Wild Fervor deals -10% per hit but +260% total damage — net massive positive. C1 spreads it to Special + Ultimate; C3 also triggers it on Staggered or Bound enemies.
