Verdict

Esther is one of the strongest on-field SSRs at launch and the best Wind carry in the 1.0 roster. Her Special Skill drops a Dust Cloud that does three things at once — it Confuses enemies inside, it upgrades her Basic Attack into a flurry of Wind sword strikes, and her Passive adds raw ATK as long as she stays in the cloud. The whole kit is built to chain that loop, so her damage ceiling is directly tied to Dust Cloud uptime.

Where she stands out from the other launch SSRs is she does not need a niche team to function. Solo she clears story and mid-difficulty Conquest on her base kit; with a Wind pull (Jiwon) and any Supporter she becomes the strongest launch composition; and the Slayer Tag-In / ambush passive lets her contribute off-field damage even when you swap to a Brawler to stagger. The Canto upgrades all compound the same Dust Cloud loop — C1 (range + 50% bonus DMG in cloud), C3 (+50% Crit DMG after Special), and C5 (+50% enhanced BA damage) are the meaningful jumps.

She is the right pull for almost every player profile — beginner, F2P, invested — provided you have the New Expedition guaranteed SSR or a banner spotlight; her base kit is what carries, dupes are scaling. Skip only if you already own a tuned Wind core and want elemental diversity instead.

  • Story / AdventureSCarries solo from her base kit. Dust Cloud + enhanced BA clears trash, Ultimate handles elite packs.
  • Conquest / BossesSTop single-target Wind DPS at launch. Wind-Harboring Broom + Abyss set push her to first place on Wind-weak bosses.
  • Stagger / BurstANot a Destroyer — she does not anchor the Stagger gauge, but her Ultimate + Tag-In contribute follow-up damage to a Destroyer-led break.
  • Endgame / RiftsSOff-field Slayer ambush keeps her damage live while you rotate. C1+ unlocks the full ceiling for hardest content.
  • F2P-friendlyAC0 kit is fully functional. Her one true paywall is the signature artifact; the Abyss set is craftable.

Strengths

  • Highest Wind single-target ceiling in the launch roster — every node of her kit funnels into the same Dust Cloud loop.
  • Self-contained: enhanced BA, Confuse debuff, +ATK passive, all from one Special Skill on a 15s cooldown.
  • Off-field value via the Slayer Support Skill — she ambushes when teammates land hits, so she keeps generating damage even when you swap.
  • Forgiving entry skill — the loop is one button (Special → stand in cloud → BA), no Time Stop, no parry windows.
  • Built-in mob control — Dust Cloud Confuses enemies, and Ultimate + Tag-In both knock Airborne. Smooth in Rifts.
  • Wind Affliction on Ultimate enables team-wide Wind synergy: it stacks with Abyss set procs and feeds any other Wind teammate.

Weaknesses

  • Damage drops sharply outside the Dust Cloud — her Passive turns off the moment she leaves the zone.
  • Special Skill cooldown is 15s. If you waste the cloud (cast on the wrong angle, get knocked out), you have downtime.
  • Not a stagger anchor. She contributes damage to a break but does not build the gauge fast like a Destroyer.
  • Wind-Harboring Broom is gated to her banner — F2P run the SR Devourer Stance set + a generic Slayer artifact and lose her real ceiling.
  • Melee — she takes hits other ranged carries do not. Pair her with a Supporter that heals or shields, not pure ATK buff.
  • C3 Crit DMG buff (50%) is removed immediately on damage taken. The endgame ceiling is real but conditional on clean play.

Best gear

Esther's recommended artifact + equipment set, with farmable alternates for F2P.

Signature artifactBISWind-Harboring BroomSSR Slayer signature. ATK +10% baseline, then +35% Wind DMG on Special Skill cast. Her entire loop revolves around the Special, so this is the rare case where the signature is genuinely the best slot — no other Slayer artifact compounds Dust Cloud usage like this. Fusion Lv. 3 adds Crit Rate per Assassin proficiency, Lv. 5 adds ATK.
Equipment setBISAbyss (4-piece)SSR Wind set. 2pc grants +10% Wind DMG for 5s on Special Skill; 4pc adds +10% Wind DMG for 5s on every critical hit. The 2pc fires every time you re-open the Dust Cloud, the 4pc maintains uptime through the enhanced BA combo. Craftable — no banner gating.

Alternates

  • Suffocating Darkness — SSR Slayer alternate if you don't have Wind-Harboring Broom — Crit DMG +8% per stack (max 2) on Switch / Support, so it pairs with the off-field ambush playstyle but loses the per-Special Wind multiplier.
  • Devourer Stance set — SR Wind set, the F2P stand-in for Abyss until you craft a full 4pc. 2pc gives +5% Wind DMG when attacking enemies with Wind Affliction — pairs naturally with Esther's Ultimate.
How the kit works

Kit overview

Five abilities, one loop. Every node either creates the Dust Cloud, gets stronger inside it, or pays out when you swap her off.

  1. SpecialHousekeeping!15s CD · Gauge 360

The keystone. Drops a Wind-damage Dust Cloud at her feet. Enemies in the cloud are Confused (they cannot identify targets, so big damage breaks), and her Basic Attack swaps to the enhanced sword combo. Open every fight with this — without the cloud she is a half kit.

  2. Basic AttackMaid's Double LifeGauge 150

Broom slap, then a sword combo. Outside the cloud it deals Physical → Wind on the finisher. Inside the cloud the entire combo becomes a Wind sword flurry — this is where the damage is. The combo also feeds Ultimate gauge, so longer BA chains = faster Ultimate windows.

  3. PassiveMaid's Double Life

+ATK while standing in the Dust Cloud, drops the moment she walks out. Treat the cloud as your standing ground, not a buff to fire-and-forget. Move with the cloud edge, not the enemy edge.

  4. Tag-InTaking Out the TrashGauge 800

Swap-in: whirlwind that knocks Airborne and pulls enemies into a tight cluster. Doubles as her Support Skill — when a teammate lands a hit while she's off-field, she ambushes them. That ambush is the real off-field damage source, so even rotating her out is not a DPS loss.

  5. UltimateThe Maid & Clover Inn's Peacekeeper3 charges

Wide horizontal slash that knocks Airborne and inflicts Wind Affliction — DoT plus -15% Wind resistance for 5s. Cast it before the cloud expires for the +35% Wind DMG window from Wind-Harboring Broom; the resistance shred also boosts any other Wind teammate's damage for the duration.

Dupes / Canto

Canto priority

Canto is Mongil's dupe system — six levels (0 to 5). Esther's C0 kit clears everything you need to clear at launch. The Canto jumps that actually move her damage are C1, C3 and C5.

Canto value (in order)

  • C1 — Broom Blade, Silver FlashBigger Dust Cloud + 50% bonus damage to enemies inside it. The single biggest jump in her chart, because it multiplies every other source of damage that depends on the cloud.
  • C3 — No Troublemakers Allowed+50% Crit DMG for 10s after every Special cast, removed on damage taken. Massive endgame ceiling if you play clean; less reliable in messy boss patterns.
  • C5 — Final Form of the Hidden Cloud Style+50% damage to the enhanced Basic Attack and the BA's 3rd hit reaches further. The cap of her main damage source — finishes her power curve.
  • C2 — Former Commander of the 9th Brigade+2 skill levels across BA / Switch / Special / Ult plus -4.5% Support cooldown. A flat statstick; valuable but not transformative.
  • C4 — Maid and Clover+2 skill levels and +6% BA damage. Same shape as C2 — feeds the next jump (C5).
  • C0 → playableShe is a complete carry with no Canto. Plan to stop at C0 unless you specifically pull her banner and stack copies; do not whale for C3/C5 unless she is your dedicated endgame carry.
On-field play

How to play her — boss rotation

Four steps. Repeat. Numbered list (this becomes a HowTo for Google).

  • 1. Drop the cloud where you will fightCast Special on your own position, not the boss's. The cloud is a zone — pick the ground you want to stand on, then pull the boss in (or Tag-In whirlwind to drag them).
  • 2. Stay inside, chain the enhanced BAFull Basic Attack combo, repeat. The enhanced BA is your damage; the Passive's ATK boost only ticks while you are in the cloud. Move with the cloud, not after the boss.
  • 3. Ultimate before the cloud expiresPop Ultimate inside the +35% Wind DMG window from Wind-Harboring Broom and while Abyss 4pc is buffed by your last crit. Ultimate also applies Wind Affliction — boss takes -15% Wind RES for 5s.
  • 4. Swap or re-castIf Special is off cooldown, re-cast and continue. If you need a swap (stagger break, healer rotation), Tag-In doubles as your exit — whirlwind, swap, and the Slayer ambush keeps your damage live off-field.
Investment by profile

Should you pull / invest?

Four answers for four player types — pick yours and read only that line if you are scanning.

Beginner / new player

Yes — Esther is the strongest, easiest pull on the launch banner pool. One-button Special, one BA loop, no Time Stop or parry timings. Pair her with the free Bonnie (Supporter SR) the game hands you and you have a launch-week clear team for almost every story chapter and side commission.

F2P / low spend

Use the New Expedition guaranteed 5★ on her. C0 is her actual product — every Canto past C0 is scaling, not unlocking. Her one paywall is the Wind-Harboring Broom artifact; the Abyss set is craftable and the SR Devourer Stance set is a real bridge. Without the signature artifact she stays A-tier; with it she is the launch S-tier Wind carry.

Invested / dolphin

Take her to C1 first — that is the meaningful jump (range + 50% bonus DMG in cloud). C3 and C5 add ceiling if you are theory-crafting maximum Wind DPS for late Conquest, but the value-per-pull after C1 falls off sharply. Spend the saved primogems elsewhere unless she is your dedicated endgame main.

Endgame / theory-crafter

She is the launch Wind ceiling. Wind-Harboring Broom + Abyss 4pc + Jiwon (pull) + Bonnie (Resonance) is the highest-output Wind team available at 1.0. C3 (50% Crit DMG window, lost on damage) is the high-ceiling / high-risk lever — clean players hit her real maximum here. Stack Crit DMG substats on equipment to make C3 fire on every Special cast.

Quick answers

FAQ

Is Esther worth pulling at launch?
Yes. She is the strongest on-field SSR in the 1.0 banner pool and the best Wind carry. Her base C0 kit clears every type of content (story, Conquest, Rifts) without dupes — only her signature artifact is a true paywall. Use the New Expedition guaranteed 5★ on her if you don't already own a tuned carry.
What is Esther's best artifact?
Wind-Harboring Broom — her signature SSR Slayer artifact. ATK +10% baseline and +35% Wind DMG for 5s on every Special Skill cast, which is her core loop. The Fusion Lv. 3 and Lv. 5 unlocks add Crit Rate and ATK scaling per Assassin proficiency. No other Slayer artifact compounds her kit this well.
What is Esther's best equipment set?
Abyss (4-piece, SSR Wind). The 2pc gives +10% Wind DMG for 5s on Special Skill cast, which fires every time you open the Dust Cloud; the 4pc gives +10% Wind DMG for 5s on every critical hit, which maintains uptime through the enhanced Basic Attack combo. Both bonuses are crit + Special-gated — exactly her playstyle.
What is the strongest Esther team at launch?
Esther + Jiwon + Bonnie. Jiwon gathers enemies into Esther's Dust Cloud, Bonnie applies Resonance to amplify the burst, Esther converts the cluster into Wind crit damage. Pure Wind team to maximise the Wind Affliction resistance shred from her Ultimate.
How do I play Esther in a boss fight?
Open with Special on your own position (the cloud is a zone, not a projectile), pull the boss in with Tag-In's whirlwind, chain the enhanced Basic Attack combo, then cast Ultimate just before the cloud expires to land it inside the Wind-Harboring Broom +35% window. When Special comes off cooldown (15s), re-drop the cloud. Repeat.
Which Canto should I prioritise for Esther?
C1 first (range + 50% bonus DMG in cloud — biggest jump). Then C3 (+50% Crit DMG after Special, lost on damage taken — high ceiling, high skill floor) and C5 (+50% enhanced BA damage). C0 is fully functional — do not whale past C0 unless she is your dedicated endgame carry.
Can I play Esther F2P?
Yes. C0 is her real product — every Canto is scaling, not unlocking. The Abyss set is craftable, and SR Devourer Stance is a real bridge. The only piece you cannot replace is the Wind-Harboring Broom artifact (banner-gated). Without it she stays A-tier; with it she is launch S-tier.
Is Esther good for story / casual play?
She is one of the best beginner carries in the game. Her loop is one button (Special) followed by Basic Attack chains — no Time Stop, no parry windows, no follow-up cancels. Pair her with the free Bonnie the game gives you and you have a launch-week clear team for the entire main story.
Does Esther work off-field as a sub-DPS?
Yes — that's the Slayer mechanic. Her Support Skill ambushes enemies when the active character lands hits, so even when you swap to a Destroyer to dump stagger damage Esther keeps generating background hits. Rotating her out is not a DPS loss; it is a different damage profile.
Esther vs. other launch SSRs — where does she rank?
She is the strongest pure on-field Wind carry, tied with Mina (Fire on-field) and Gabi (Earth on-field) for the launch S-tier across elements. Slayers as an archetype scale better with team comp (Wind teams) than the launch Brawlers, which is why she edges out for top-spot in community tier lists.
