Shadow of Whitetail — Octowpus

The Miguel District Octowpus chase. Track the patrolling green trailer truck from your commission menu, block its path, fight the tentacled anomaly when the disguise drops. Same boss as Invasion! Octopus Trailer (Unheard Shores) and Ghost Boulevard Wild Rally (New Herland) — three district-specific takes on the same encounter.

TL;DR — 5 Steps

  1. Open the Anomaly Commission menuShadow of Whitetail Tree Circle Mountain Highway doesn't have a fixed location — track it from the commission menu to surface its live position on the map.
  2. Drive to its current roadThe truck patrols Miguel District's highway routes. Get into your fastest car and intercept its current path.
  3. Identify by black smokeA normal green trailer truck wouldn't trail black smoke. Lock onto the one that does — it's your target.
  4. Block to force the revealPull in front of the truck and stop. Forcing it to halt triggers the Octowpus reveal animation and starts combat.
  5. Defeat OctowpusStandard Lv II boss with tentacle pattern attacks. Same Octowpus as Invasion! Octopus Trailer and Ghost Boulevard Wild Rally — just patrolling a different district.

Catching the Truck

  1. Open the Anomaly Commission menu and select Shadow of Whitetail Tree Circle Mountain Highway.
  2. The truck's current GPS position appears on the world map — start your route from the closest fast-travel point.
  3. Get into a fast 4-wheeled vehicle. A motorcycle works but the chase is easier in a car because of the blocking maneuver later.
  4. Drive to the truck's marked position. By the time you arrive it will have moved — use the live tracking marker.
  5. Visually confirm the target: a green old trailer truck trailing thick black smoke. The smoke is the tell, not the truck colour itself.
  6. Position your vehicle ahead of the truck and brake hard — force it to stop.
  7. When the truck halts, the disguise drops, Octowpus reveals itself, and you enter combat.
  8. Defeat Octowpus to clear the commission and earn the standard payout.

Boss: Octowpus

Same Octowpus boss you fight in Invasion! Octopus Trailer (Unheard Shores) and Ghost Boulevard Wild Rally (New Herland). A small-kit tentacle anomaly with whip attacks and an ink-spray AoE. The three commissions differ only by which district hosts the chase — the fight itself is mechanically identical, and clearing it once teaches you all three.

Tentacle whip

Dodge

Tell: Octowpus raises a tentacle high before sweeping it in a wide arc.

Slow telegraph, easy dodge. The first attack you'll see when combat starts — use it to gauge the parry timing on the others.

Ink spray

Reposition

Tell: Octowpus puffs up briefly, then sprays ink in a forward cone.

Cone AoE with brief blind/slow debuff. Don't try to facetank — sidestep out of the cone before the spray resolves.

Ground slam

Dodge

Tell: Multiple tentacles raise above ground level and slam down in sequence.

Wide radial AoE. Dodge away from the centre, not laterally — the slam radius covers the entire close-combat range.

Pro Tips & Common Pitfalls

  • Block the truck CLEANLY — don't ram it from the side. Forcing a stop is the trigger, but lateral impacts often push the truck back into motion without resolving the reveal.
  • Watch for trailing civilian vehicles. If they crash into the stopped truck you'll pick up Warrant Value (in-game wanted level) from collateral damage. Block on an empty stretch of road when possible.
  • Same Octowpus boss as Invasion! Octopus Trailer and Ghost Boulevard Wild Rally. The tells transfer 1-for-1 across all three commissions.
  • If the truck escapes your block, don't chase forever — return to the commission menu, re-track it, and re-route from the new position. Random patrol paths can take it across the district in seconds.
  • Whitetail Tree Circle Mountain Highway is in Miguel District specifically. The other two Octowpus commissions are in Unheard Shores (Invasion! Octopus Trailer) and New Herland (Ghost Boulevard Wild Rally) — they're separate weekly commissions.
