TL;DR
Mongil: Star Dive uses a standard pickup-banner gacha system. Per the in-game data tables: SSR base drop rate is 1%, SR base drop rate is 6%, and R base rate is 93%. Character pickup banners include a 10-pull SR guarantee mechanic and an SSR hard pity at 90 pulls — if you reach pull #90 on a pickup banner without an SSR drop, the next SSR is guaranteed to be the featured (pickup) character. These are the only numbers we cite as fact; everything else (soft pity rates, banner duration windows, currency costs) we treat as observable in-game.
The strategic implication is straightforward: budget 90 pulls per pickup banner. If you can afford 180+ pulls before a banner ends, you're statistically near-guaranteed to clear both the featured SSR + at least one Canto copy. Below 90 pulls = no guarantee, just statistical chance. F2P players who play daily typically accumulate 60-100 pulls between banners — enough for one guaranteed pickup if you save through skip-banners.
Pull-priority ranking for launch (1.0): Esther > Mina ≈ Penny ≈ Gabi > Jiwon > Flare > Sangun > Ophelia. Esther defines Wind cross-banner because she anchors the launch S-tier team (Esther + Jiwon + Bonnie / Sangun). Skip rules: only pull on banners that fit your existing elemental core or that fill a missing role slot (no Earth carry → Gabi banner, no Lightning carry → Penny banner).
Pros of the gacha system
- Hard pity at 90 pulls — the SSR pickup is GUARANTEED at that count if you haven't hit one naturally. No more 200-pull horror stories like in older games.
- 10-pull SR guarantee — you never go 10 pulls without at least an SR drop. Floor on bad-luck spirals.
- Free pull currency from daily login + Season Pass + first-clear rewards adds up to ~60-100 pulls between banner cycles for daily players.
- Standard banner is a safety net — 10-pull guarantee + 20-pull bonus mean leftover currency converts into reliable SR + occasional SSR over time.
- Hard pity does not carry between banners — but if you don't pull the SSR, the pity counter you built isn't wasted because you weren't going to want a random SSR anyway.
- Rate-up character pity (90 pulls = guaranteed pickup) is element-independent — you can save Wind banner pity for a future Wind banner if the current featured character isn't your target.
Cons + risks
- 1% base SSR rate means natural drops are rare — most players hit the SSR at 60-90 pulls (the soft + hard pity zone), not from lucky 10-pull bursts.
- Currency cost per 10-pull is significant — F2P players realistically afford ~1 pickup banner cycle per 3-4 weeks of daily play.
- Canto copies (dupes) require pulling past 90 hard pity multiple times — dolphin-level investment for C3+ on any character.
- Banner schedule changes patch-to-patch — you can't always wait for the perfect character (e.g. waiting 3 months for a future banner means losing 3 months of team value).
- No pity carry between standard banner and character pickup banner — pulls on standard banner don't count toward pickup pity.
- Premium currency (gems) refresh cap means stockpiling beyond a certain amount isn't possible — eventually you have to spend or waste regen.
Priority rules
The one rule that matters + the first-SSR target + alt strategies for F2P / dolphin / whale.
Alt strategies
- F2P budget plan (60-90 pulls per cycle) — Pull only on banners that fill a missing element slot in your team. Skip banners for elements you already have a working carry. Save 60-90 pulls to hit pity reliably; if you can't afford pity, skip entirely.
- Dolphin plan (Canto chase) — After clearing your launch S-tier team, target C1 + C2 on Esther / Mina / Penny / Gabi (the highest Canto-value carries). C1 typically requires 1 dupe (1 extra pickup-pity cycle), C2 requires 2 dupes.
- Whale plan (full meta clear) — Pull every banner to C2 on launch. Total budget estimate: ~270 pulls per pickup banner (90 for SSR + 2 dupes). Reserve a side-stash for limited-time event banners that may be more valuable than expected.
The math, straight from the game files
What the in-game data tables (PICK + PICK_ADVANTAGE) actually say.
Drop rates per pull
- SSR base rate — 1% per single pull on character pickup banners. Sourced from in-game PICK data table (Rate field 10000 / 1000000).
- SR base rate — 6% per single pull on character pickup banners. Sourced from same data table (Rate 60000 / 1000000).
- R base rate — 93% per single pull. Sourced from same data table (Rate 930000 / 1000000).
- SR pity (every 10 pulls) — 10-pull multi guarantees at least 1 SR — sourced from in-game pity mechanics (PICK_ADVANTAGE PICK_COUNT_GROUP 9-10 step).
- SSR hard pity — Pity guaranteed by pull #90 on a character pickup banner — sourced from PICK_ADVANTAGE PICK_COUNT_MAX value (76-90 range). The next SSR after pity is the featured pickup character.
What to do with your current pull count
Scenario-by-scenario advice based on your available pulls.
0-30 pulls saved
Don't pull on a pickup banner. You can't afford pity. Save until you hit 90+, even if it means skipping the current banner entirely. Spend leftover daily currency on the standard banner for SR / occasional SSR over time.
30-60 pulls saved
Borderline territory. Only pull if (1) the featured character is your absolute meta priority AND (2) the banner ends before you'd accumulate enough to reach pity on the next attempt. Otherwise save.
60-90 pulls saved
Pull window opens. You can reach hard pity within the banner — guaranteed SSR. Best ROI for F2P daily players. If you're lucky on the first 60 pulls, the rest carries over conceptually (you walk away with the featured SSR + bank the unused pulls for the next banner).
90+ pulls saved
Hard pity is locked in — the featured SSR is yours guaranteed. If you save 180+, you can chase C1 on the featured character via a second pity cycle. 270+ = C2 attempt. Above that = whale territory.
Who to pull first (launch 1.0)
Element-by-element pull-priority for the launch character pool.
Wind core — pull priority 1 (highest)
Esther is the launch S-tier Wind carry and defines the entire endgame meta. Jiwon is the third corner of the S-tier comp (Esther + Jiwon + Bonnie). Sangun is the second Wind carry slot. Pull order: Esther > Jiwon > Sangun. Bonnie is free at launch.
Fire core — pull priority 2
Mina is the SSR Fire Brawler (Essence + Luminous Rush burst). Flare is the SSR Fire Destroyer (Blaze Zone + Dragon's Breath sustained DMG). Both are S-tier — pull whichever banner comes first. The Fire team is the launch capstone (Mina + Flare + Francis vs. Hahnul).
Earth core — pull priority 3
Gabi is the only Earth SSR carry — pull her if you do not have an Earth core. Francis (SR) is the free Earth healer. Ellie + Daisy fill the SR Earth slots. The Earth team handles Conquest tier 3-5 fights efficiently.
Lightning core — pull priority 4
Penny is the SSR Lightning Brawler (Coin economy + Electric Overload — highest skill floor in the launch roster). Reina (SR Lightning Destroyer) anchors stagger via HP-scaling Neutralization DMG. Benjamin / Yeonhwa fill SR Slayer slots. Pull Penny only if you commit to learning her kit; she's not beginner-friendly.
Ice core — pull priority 5
Ophelia is the simplest SSR Brawler to learn and the most F2P-friendly. Cloud + Sera fill the SR Ice slots. Skip if you have stronger Wind / Fire / Earth cores; pull Ophelia first if you're a beginner who wants a clean S-tier learning experience.
Skip rules — when to save instead of spend
Five situations where pulling is statistically wrong.
- 1. You have < 90 pulls saved — You can't reach hard pity. Half-committing is the worst possible outcome. Skip entirely and save.
- 2. The featured character is off-element from your core — Pulling a Wind carry when you have Fire / Earth / Lightning cores wastes the gem spend on a character you won't slot into your team. Skip for an element you can actually use.
- 3. The featured character is a role you already have at SSR — Pulling a second SSR Wind Slayer when you have Esther is pure C-investment territory. Only pull if you're a dolphin chasing C2-C5.
- 4. A meta-defining limited-time event is imminent — If patch notes hint at a new banner / event in 1-2 weeks, save through the current standard banner. Don't get hyped on early-patch banners you'll regret in 4 weeks.
- 5. You're emotionally attached to the character — Cute character ≠ team value. Pull for cute if you have the budget to spare, but never pull for cute if it means skipping a meta carry the following month. Mongil shines on team comp, not waifu collection.

FAQ
- What is the SSR rate in Mongil: Star Dive?
- 1% per single pull on character pickup banners. Sourced from the in-game PICK data table (Rate field 10000 out of 1000000 = 1%).
- What is the pity counter in Mongil: Star Dive?
- Character pickup banners guarantee at least 1 SR every 10 pulls and guarantee the featured SSR at pull #90 (hard pity). Sourced from the in-game PICK_ADVANTAGE data table.
- How many pulls should I save before committing to a banner?
- 90 pulls minimum — the hard pity guarantees the featured SSR. If you can't afford 90 pulls, skip the banner entirely. Half-committing (spending 30-50 pulls then giving up) is the worst possible outcome.
- Who should I pull first in launch 1.0?
- Esther if you want the launch S-tier team (Esther + Jiwon + Bonnie). Otherwise pull for the element you lack a carry in: Gabi (Earth), Penny (Lightning), Mina or Flare (Fire), Ophelia (Ice). Wind core has the highest meta priority but Mina / Penny / Gabi are all S-tier in their elements.
- Is pity shared across banners?
- No. Pity counter is per-banner. If you save 50 pulls on a banner and the banner ends, those pulls don't carry to the next banner's pity counter — but the SSR drops you missed weren't ones you wanted anyway, so the lost pity isn't a real loss.
- What's the difference between standard banner and pickup banner?
- Standard banner has 10-pull SR guarantee + 20-pull bonus rewards but no SSR pickup pity. Character pickup banners have the same 10-pull SR + the 90-pull SSR pickup pity that guarantees the featured character. Pickup banners are always the better target.
- Can I get Canto copies (dupes) without spending?
- Yes but rarely. Free players can realistically expect C0 on most pulled characters, occasionally C1 if they get lucky on a second pity cycle. C2+ Cantos require either repeated pity hits (dolphin-level investment) or duplicate drops via standard banner converted to character shards.
- How do I get more pull currency F2P?
- Daily login bonus + Season Pass + first-clear achievement rewards + Conquest leaderboard + community events. See the [daily-checklist] on this site for the complete free-currency routine. F2P daily players typically accumulate ~60-100 pulls between major banner cycles.
- Should I pull on the standard banner?
- Only with leftover currency. 10-pull SR guarantee + 20-pull bonus give reliable SR farming for character shards / Canto copies. Don't save for standard banner long-term — the pickup banners give better value.
- When does the next banner start?
- Banner schedules are official communication, not game data we can read. Check the in-game banner UI + official patch notes for the current and upcoming banner windows. Plan your pull saving around announced banner dates.
