Mongil: Star Dive — Monsterling Fusion Guide

Complete guide to Monsterling fusion: event combos, mutation chains, trait locks, and slot role assignment.

Mongil: Star Dive — Monsterling Fusion Guide

Fusion Basics

The Combining system lets you merge two Monsterlings to upgrade a star rating or trigger a Mutation — a special fusion that produces an entirely different species. Combining unlocks after completing the Breezeville story beat.

Two types of combining

Standard combine — Two Monsterlings of the same species and star level. 50% chance to raise one by a star; on failure you get a duplicate of either parent. Traits can change during the process.
Mutation combine— Two specific different species that produce a brand-new result. Each recipe has its own success rate (typically 20–33%). A failed mutation returns a duplicate of one of the parents — you don't lose everything, but you need replacements.
Open the Mutations tab in the Combining menu to see all known recipes. Undiscovered recipes appear as silhouettes — you can check parent requirements without already knowing the result.

Before combining — checklist

Check the Rate tabbefore confirming — it shows exact trait transfer percentages for this specific combo. Don't skip this step.
Lock yellow (Special-grade) traitswith Premium Salmon Puree before combining. Yellow traits have a lower transfer rate than common ones — they're the most likely to be lost.
Combine level 60 + level 1— the EXP from the higher-level parent transfers to the offspring. Combining two levelled copies doesn't give more XP, you just lose one.

Event Fusion — Monsterling Fusion Festival

During the Monsterling Fusion Festival seasonal event, four special mutation recipes become available. These produce event-exclusive Monsterlings not obtainable through the standard Mutations tab.

Critical rule: Event fusion only accepts Gray-rank (1★) Monsterlings. Higher-star copies are not accepted. Submitted Monsterlings are permanently consumed — they do not return on failure.

These 4 combos form a chain: Teal Cappy (combo 1) is an ingredient for Leafy Mama (combo 2), and Cappyberry (combo 3) is an ingredient for Green Cappy Bro (combo 4). Farm combos 1 and 3 first, then use the results for 2 and 4.

How success rates work

33% means roughly 1 success in 3 attempts on average. 25% means about 1 in 4. These are averages — you can succeed on the first try or fail six times in a row.
On failure, you receive a duplicate of one parent. For event combos, this means a gray-rank copy of one of the originals — farm replacements before the event ends.

Farming Guide — Where to Find Ingredients

Common event ingredients

Brown Cappy, Cappy, Cappy Mama, and Uncle Cappyare common overworld spawns. Run any appropriate area map and you'll collect them naturally. Focus your time on the harder ingredient below.

Spark Slime — Rare Lightning spawn

Spark Slime is the rarest ingredient, required for combo 3 (Cappy + Spark Slime → Cappyberry). Only around 10 appear on the entire world map and they don't respawn quickly. Prioritise these locations.

Ventus Forest Depths
Multiple spawn points — best density
Delica Plain Entrance
Spawn cluster near the zone entrance
Delica Plain North
Additional spawn points in the northern area
Spark Slime does not appear on the Request Board. If the map is cleared, revisit Elan Dore first — it has the highest spawn density. Allow a few minutes between passes for respawns.

Multi-Step Mutation Chains

Some Monsterlings require intermediate mutations before reaching the final form — you must obtain the intermediate first, then use it as an ingredient in the next step. Use the Fusion Calculator for a full chain lookup by result or parent.

Shortcut: The Dimensional Rift can spawn final-tier mutations directly, bypassing intermediate chain steps entirely. Before grinding a multi-step chain, check whether your target appears in the Rift pool — a few Gold refreshes may be faster.

Mole chain — verified

A two-step chain confirmed in the game database. Each step has its own success rate — account for multiple attempts at both stages when stocking ingredients.

Chain noteGold Digger Mole (step 1 result) is consumed as an ingredient in step 2. Farm spare Digger Moles and Tunneler Moles before starting — you may need multiple step 1 attempts to generate enough Gold Digger Moles.

Trait Management & Salmon Puree

Every Monsterling has 4 traits that provide passive stat bonuses. Traits have rarity grades — Yellow (Special quality) is the best. Combining can change traits unpredictably, so lock any yellow traits before proceeding.

Trait lock costs — Premium Salmon Puree

5Purees → 1 trait locked
10Purees → 2 traits locked
20Purees → 3 traits locked
40Purees → 4 traits locked
Premium Salmon Puree is obtained in the Rift Shop using Token Coins earned from Dimensional Rift runs. Spend tokens weekly — they cap out.

Sub-attributes — how they actually work

Traits provide bonuses like ATK%, DEF%, Crit Rate, HP%, or elemental damage. Their quality grade (gray / green / blue / purple / yellow) determines the value — higher grade = higher stat.
Unlike Link Chain abilities, traits are always active — no trigger condition required. Equipping a Monsterling in any sub-slot immediately applies its trait bonuses.
Same-rarity combining gives the most stable trait pool. Combining a 3★ with another 3★ — rather than a 1★ with a 3★ — keeps transfer odds as predictable as possible.

Strategy: build a 4-yellow-trait Monsterling

Get two copies of your target Monsterling, each with 2 different Special-grade (yellow) traits. You cannot stack two identical elemental-weakness traits on a single Mon.
Bring both copies to 5★ via combination or Enhancement Stones.
Lock both yellow traits on each copy (10 Purees per copy).
Combine the two — the offspring inherits all 4 yellow traits, giving you a best-in-slot Monsterling.

Slot Roles

Each character equips Monsterlings across three slots with distinct roles. Understanding the difference prevents wasting your best Monsterlings in the wrong slot.

Slot 1 — Main
Link Chain / Conquest Boss
The primary active slot. Accepts Link Chain types (abilities that fire on a trigger condition) or Conquest Boss types. The ability fires when its specific trigger is met during combat.
Sub-slots 1 & 2
Always-Active Stat Bonus
Pure passive stat bonuses — no trigger required. Equip Monsterlings with the highest-grade traits here for a constant benefit. Straightforward: best trait grade wins.
Don't equip a Link Chain type in a sub-slot — the Link Chain ability won't fire there. Reserve sub-slots for high-quality trait Monsterlings and put your best Link Chain in the main slot.

Common Mistakes

Submitting higher-star Monsterlings in event fusion. Event fusion only accepts 1★ gray-rank copies. Submitting a 3★ copy is permanent and irreversible. Double-check the star rating before every event submission.
Optimising traits before your endgame pick is confirmed.Don't spend Salmon Puree on a Monsterling you'll replace in two weeks. Lock in your final team composition first, then trait-invest the keepers.
Combining without checking the Rate tab. Some trait combos have very low transfer rates. One glance at the Rate tab before confirming can prevent losing a yellow trait on a 5★ Mon.
Ignoring the Dimensional Rift shortcut for multi-step chains. A 3-step chain with 25–33% rates per step can consume 10+ ingredient runs. Check whether your target spawns in the Rift pool first.
Treating fusion like a guaranteed outcome. A 25% rate means 75% failure on each attempt. Plan ingredient supply for multiple tries before starting a high-priority chain.

Quick Tips

Use the Fusion Calculator at /mongil/fusion — reverse-lookup by result or by parent. Faster than scrolling the in-game Mutations tab when hunting a specific chain.
Stock gray-rank ingredients before the event opens. Event timers are tight. Have 5–10 copies of each ingredient ready so you can attempt multiple combinations without stopping mid-session to farm.
Two yellow-trait copies → combine for a 4-yellow offspring. Get two copies of your target Mon, each with 2 different yellow traits. Lock both (10 Purees each), bring both to 5★, then combine — offspring inherits all 4 yellows.
Save Enhancement Stones for already trait-locked Monsterlings.Enhancement Stones upgrade star rating without touching traits. Use them only on Monsterlings whose traits you've already secured — otherwise, combine normally and save the stones.
