Mongil: Star Dive — Monsterlings Guide

Monsterling Sources

Each Monsterling has a fixed source depending on its rarity. Understanding this avoids wasting time looking in the wrong place. Browse the full Monsterling list to filter by element, rarity, and source.

Overworld Map
Blue rarity and below — Spawn freely in the overworld. Run a map and move on. Examples: Cappy Mama, Uncle Cappy, Gorrik, Ring Slime.
Request Board
Purple rarity — Request Board only. Target ones that don't appear on the map. Examples: Man War, Plains Minotaur. Exception: Behemo-wolf is also only on the Request Board despite being a mid-tier pick.
Conquest
Gold / Conquest rarity — Conquest Board only. These are end-game best-in-slot Monsterlings. Farm Conquest daily once you can clear it.
Dimensional Rift
Dimensional Rift — Special and Boss tier. Includes direct final mutations (Nokjung, Maple Odong, Amon, Avardan…). 3 tickets per week, reset Monday.
On the Request Board, don't refresh for common Monsterlings you can farm on the map (Uncle Cappy, Gorrik, Ring Slime). Save refreshes for purple rarity targets you can't get in the overworld.

Dimensional Rift — The Fast Path

3tickets / week
129species available
19boss encounters
Monweekly reset
Key insight:You don't need to farm intermediate mutation chains step by step. The Dimensional Rift can spawn final mutations directly (Nokjung, Maple Odong, Moon Shadow Lupe…). Refresh with Gold at unlocked stages to find your target instead of farming from scratch.

Shortcut strategy

1
Unlock stages in order — Each stage must be opened sequentially. Don't refresh until a stage is already unlocked.
2
Refresh with Gold on unlocked stages — If the current stage doesn't show your target, refresh. Don't over-spend — if the cost is too high, move down to a cheaper stage instead.
3
Step 11+ for Wind targets (Nokjung, Manwol) — Before step 11, the recommended weakness is not yet Wind. Stay at step 11 or higher when targeting Wind Monsterlings.
4
Boss victories guarantee a drop — Every boss fight in the Rift guarantees the Monsterling. Win the fight and it's yours.
New players:Don't burn through event keys before unlocking the Dimensional Rift. Finish the story to unlock the Rift and clear up to step 10+ first — then use event shops to buy Enhancement Stones.

Current season: Season 2 features Mina (active until May 27, 2026). The featured character and element pool rotate every few weeks — the season determines which Monsterlings are prioritized in encounters.

Combination — Star Rating System

The maximum star rating obtainable from wild capture is 3★. Reaching 4★ and 5★ requires the Combination system or Enhancement Stones.

2★Green
3★Blue
4★Purple
5★Gold

How to combine efficiently

Two same-star Monsterlings → percentage chance to upgrade one to the next star level. Check the Rate tab before confirming to see exact success percentages.
Batch combine— Use "Combine by Batch" and filter by star level. Select all 1★, combine them to 2★ in one go, then repeat for 2★ → 3★. Much faster than combining one by one.
EXP transfer — When combining, the higher-level Monsterling's EXP carries over to the offspring. Always combine a level 60 + level 1 to maximise XP transfer and avoid wasting a levelled copy.
Trait risk — Combination can change traits. If your Monsterling has yellow (special quality) traits, use Enhancement Stones instead or lock the trait first with Salmon Puree before combining.
Be careful with near-identical Monsterlings in your inventory — it's easy to accidentally combine the wrong one. Equip or lock the copies you want to keep before batch combining.

Enhancement Stones — Safe Star Upgrade

Enhancement Stones upgrade a Monsterling's star rating without changing its traits. Use these when you have a Monsterling with perfect traits you don't want to risk through combination.

Enhancement Stones are available in event shopsduring seasonal events. Stock up when they appear — they're the only upgrade method that preserves traits 100%.

Traits & Premium Salmon Puree

Every Monsterling has 4 material traits that provide stat bonuses. Traits have their own rarity grades — Yellow (Special quality)is the best. During combination, traits from both parents can transfer but aren't guaranteed to do so.

Key mechanics

Lower-rarity traits have a higher transfer rate — which means your best yellow traits are actually harder to preserve through combination. Always lock them before combining.
When you see a yellow trait, lock it before combining. You can view transfer rates under the "Rate" tab in the combination screen.

Locking traits with Premium Salmon Puree

5Purees = 1 trait locked
10Purees = 2 traits locked
Obtain Premium Salmon Puree in the Rift Shop using Token Coins earned from Dimensional Rift runs.

Strategy: building a 4-trait special Monsterling

Get two copies of your target Monsterling (e.g. Nokjung), each with 2 different Special-grade traits. You cannot stack two identical elemental weakness traits on a single Monsterling.
Bring both copies to 5★ first via combination or Enhancement Stones.
Lock both Special traits on each copy (10 Purees each).
Combine the two → the offspring inherits all 4 Special traits, giving you a best-in-slot Monsterling.

Mutations

Mutations are special Monsterlings created by combining two specific parents. They unlock unique abilities unavailable on standard captures and are key to endgame builds.

Check the Mutations tab in the Combining menu — it shows all available recipes including undiscovered ones. This is your primary reference for what can be made and which parents are needed.
Mutation success is not guaranteed. Rates vary per recipe (typically 20–33%). A failed attempt produces a duplicate of either parent — not a total loss, but be prepared for multiple tries.
Some mutation chains are multi-step — you may need an intermediate mutation before reaching the final form. The Dimensional Rift shortcut (see above) lets you skip these chains entirely for final-tier targets.
The combination screen shows potential new traitsthat can appear in the offspring. Check them before confirming if you're hunting specific abilities.
There are 56+ known mutation combinations. Visit our Fusion Calculator for a complete reverse-lookup by result or by parents.

Tips & Common Mistakes

What to avoid

Don't combine Monsterlings with strong traits without locking them first. Even a 5★ with perfect yellow traits will lose them in a failed combination. Lock with Salmon Puree before combining — always.
Don't search the map for purple or gold rarity Monsterlings. They don't spawn in the overworld. Only blue rarity and below appear naturally on the map.
Don't refresh the Request Board for common Monsterlings.Refreshes cost Gold. Target only what you can't get elsewhere — purple rarity picks that have no map spawn.
Don't use event keys before unlocking Dimensional Rift (new players). Finish the main story first, unlock the Rift, reach step 10+, then use event shops to buy Enhancement Stones.

Best practices

Use Enhancement Stonesfor any Monsterling with perfect traits — it's the only star upgrade method that preserves traits 100%. Save stones for these cases.
Batch combine regularly. Sort by star level, select all 1★, batch-combine to 2★, repeat for 2★ → 3★. Doing this a few times a week keeps your inventory clean and builds a steady supply of higher-star fodder.
Always combine level 60 + level 1.The EXP from the higher-level Monsterling transfers to the offspring. Combining two levelled copies doesn't give more XP — you just lose one of them.
Use the Source button on any Monsterling in your bestiary to see exactly which map or board it spawns on — no guesswork needed.
Check the Rate tab before every combination — it shows exact trait transfer percentages so you can make an informed decision about whether to lock or risk it.
