41 of Britannia's pets can be tamed in the open world instead of bought, including 11 mounts and 6 flying pets. You weaken a wild beast, throw a Potion of Charm, and roll the catch. The whole skill ceiling is one thing: rarer pets resist harder, so they demand a stronger potion and a near-dead target.
The cheapest mounts are the Grade 1, difficulty-2 rides: Domesticated Dusk Bison (the taming questline's first open-world catch), Marincat, Sword Wolf. They resist only 20%, so a craftable High-purity potion lands them at ~20% full-HP and ~40% once weakened. The truly trivial catches (60-80% with a basic potion) are the Grade 1 companions, not mounts.
The Grade 4 rides (Midnight Fang, Domesticated Kangaroo Rat) and Grade 4 flyers (Forest Reaper, the Wild Dragons) are difficulty 5: even the top Radiant potion only gives ~10%, and only once the beast is nearly dead. Bring a stack and expect retries.
Mounts first, then flying pets, then gliders and companions, and inside each group, highest rarity (Grade 5) down to Grade 1, then by in-game order. Every catch rate, region and difficulty below is accurate to the current version of the game; tap any pet to open its full page.
Taming is its own loop, separate from gacha and crafting. Five steps, the same every time:
Do the early Liones region-quest “How to Make Friends” from Ashu, the monster master near the Werebear Camp. He gives you a free guaranteed catch: a Baby Giant Bird standing beside him, then sends you after a Domesticated Dusk Bison as your first real open-world catch. It's easy to miss, so grab it early.
Assign a Potion of Charm to a quick slot first, because once you start taking damage you can't open your bag. With one equipped, capturable monsters are marked with a purple glow so you can spot them in the open world.
Fight the beast down, but don't kill it. Every pet gets a flat catch-rate bonus once it's under its HP threshold (10% for the hardest targets), and for the rare ones that bonus is the difference between a coin-flip and an impossible catch.
It's a thrown ground item used in combat. Aim at the weakened target and the game shows a live capture-% indicatorbefore you commit. Its tier sets your base chance; the target's resistance is subtracted from it. Under-tier the potion and your odds are flat zero.
Final chance = potion rate − pet resistance, plus the low-HP bonus. Miss and the beast stays; bring spares for anything above Grade 2.
A pet's grade is its resistance. Grade 1 beasts resist nothing; Grade 4 trophies resist up to 70%, which a 20%-base Faint potion can't even dent. That single number is why the rare mounts feel brutal: the maths, not bad luck.
Five tiers. A higher tier means a higher base catch rate, so a rarer pet you can realistically land. The Brilliant sits just under the Radiant at 67%, and it is the strongest potion you can craft yourself. Tap any potion for its full item page.
You craft them. The first four chain upward at the Production bench: each one eats the tier below it plus saps and herbs you gather across Britannia, and none of them cost a single gold, only materials. The Brilliant caps that chain at 67%, built from three Concentrated potions:
The Tier 4 Radiant Potion of Charm is the exception: it has no crafting recipe and isn't sold for gold, yet it is not paid-only. The reliable free source is Timespace Junction: clear Sectors 2, 4 and 6 at the 2-star (clear-time) tier for 3 Radiants each, and the milestone resets every season. Free events (the Rising Sun login check-in, the Crimson Boar event) drop more, and paid bundles exist on top. So the difficulty-5 trophies are gated by your TSJ clears, not your wallet. When your Radiants run dry, the craftable Brilliant is the next best throw, short of the very hardest catches it can't crack.
Every capturable beast sits at one of five difficulty steps, really just how much catch rate it resists. Bring at least the potion listed: anything weaker has a flat-zero chance no matter the beast's HP.
The “minimum potion” is just enough to give a non-zero chance; bring one tier higher for comfortable odds, and remember the base figures above climb again once the beast is at low HP. Anything weaker than the listed potion has a flat zero chance, full HP or not. Difficulty 5 is the ceiling: even a Radiant potion only opens a ~10% window, and only on a near-dead target.
Ground rides, sorted rarest first. Grade 4 mounts are difficulty-5 trophies; the Grade 1 rides are the quick, reliable catches to get you moving early.

Capturable beasts cluster by region. Liones holds the most variety; the deserts are your fox-and-camel mount stop. Spot counts are how many wild spawns the map tracks for that region.

Find the wild version of the pet, fight it down to low HP, then throw a Potion of Charm at it. Your catch chance is the potion's rate minus the beast's resistance, plus a bonus while it's at low HP. Succeed and the pet joins your collection.

Yes. Every capturable beast gets a flat catch-rate bonus once it drops below 10% of its max HP, and the threshold is the same 10% for all of them, easy or hard. For the rare pets that low-HP bonus is the difference between a real chance and zero, so always weaken before you throw.
Mounts (Riding type) are rides by definition, and a few flying pets (like the Forest Reaper) double as mounts once tamed. Gliding pets carry you across gaps, and companions simply follow you around.
