The short version

Should you build Bug?

Bug is a free SR who punches above his rarity as a Darkness specialist. He is not an endgame damage headliner — his stats and multipliers are SR-tier — but every weapon gives him a distinct, well-defined role inside a Darkness composition. Axe is a charge-crit bruiser whose passive Troublemaker grants +45% Crit Damage against Darkness-Burst targets. Dual Swords is a back-attack assassin: Blitz adds +35% damage on back attacks and Annihilation resets its own cooldown on a back hit. Book is a pure Darkness support — it shreds enemy Darkness Resistance, drops a Taunt-and-Stun Decoy, and its passive Derision gives allies +20% Darkness damage against Cursed enemies.

If you only invest in one path, match it to your team: Book for any Darkness composition that wants resistance shred plus a +20% Darkness-damage team buff, Axe for a self-sufficient Crit-Damage bruiser, or Dual Swords if you can reliably land back attacks for the assassin burst. As an SR he is cheap to ascend, which makes the Book support path especially accessible value.

Bottom line: Bug is worth building as a free, budget Darkness piece — especially Book as a team enabler for a Darkness core. He will not headline an endgame team, but he is an accessible utility/bruiser hybrid while you build toward premium SSRs.

  • Axe pathDark BruiserCharge-crit + Crit-Damage passive.
  • Dual Swords pathBack-attack DPS+35% back-attack damage.
  • Book pathDark SupportDarkness-Res shred + ally Curse buff.

Strengths

  • Free SR — every account can field him, and he is cheap to ascend.
  • Three full kits in one hero — Axe (Dark bruiser), Dual Swords (back-attack Attacker), Book (Dark Supporter).
  • Axe passive Troublemaker: +45% Crit Damage when attacking a Darkness-Burst target.
  • Book Dark Burst Activation cuts enemy Darkness Resistance by 15% for 40 sec.
  • Book passive Derision: allies attacking a Cursed enemy gain +20% Darkness damage.
  • Dual Swords passive Blitz adds +35% damage on back attacks; Annihilation resets its own cooldown on a back hit.

Weaknesses

  • SR rarity — low base stats and SR-tier multipliers; not an endgame damage carry.
  • Every path is Darkness — his best value needs a Darkness team to shred resistance and pay off Curse.
  • Dual Swords' payoff is conditional — Blitz and Annihilation's reset both want consistent back attacks.
  • Book's damage is low (it is the support path); its value is the Resistance shred and Derision, not personal DPS.
  • His combined-attack data ships no team-bonus text — he contributes utility, not a combo debuff.

Path 1 · Darkness · Attacker

Axe — the charge-crit Darkness bruiser

The self-sufficient path: a charge-crit big hit plus a strong Crit-Damage passive.

Axe is Bug's straightforward bruiser. Abyss Smasher is a chargeable hit that deals 166% at low charge and 237% fully charged (100% on overcharge), and while charging, attacking when the weapon glows lands a guaranteed Critical Hit. Dark Thrash deals 188% and pulls the enemy to the centre, giving the path its own built-in gather for mobs. His Ultimate, Death Swarm, first raises his own Darkness damage by 30% for 20 seconds and then lands a 380% strike.

The reason to run Axe is the passive Troublemaker: attacking an enemy with Darkness Burst active grants +45% Crit Damage. Paired with the guaranteed crit from a glowing Abyss Smasher, that is a clean, self-contained damage package from a free SR — no teammate setup required beyond a Darkness Burst on the target.

Path 2 · Darkness · Attacker

Dual Swords — the back-attack assassin

A positional DPS path: teleport behind, reset on back hits, and strip enemy Darkness Burst.

Dual Swords turns Bug into a back-attack assassin. Dual Abyss Slash stacks +10% of his own Darkness damage for 20 seconds (up to three times) and then teleports him behind the enemy for a 165% hit — putting him exactly where his kit wants to be. Annihilation deals 263%, and crucially a Back Attack resets the Special Attack cooldown, so clean positioning lets you chain it. His Ultimate, The End, deals 326%, adds bonus damage to Darkness-Burst targets, and the final strike removes their Darkness Burst.

The whole path is gated by the passive Blitz — Back Attacks increase damage by 35%. That is a large modifier, but it only pays off if you can reliably hit the enemy's back, so this is the path for players comfortable with positioning rather than a point-and-click bruiser.

Path 3 · Darkness · Supporter

Book — the Curse / Decoy support

The team-enabler path: Darkness-Resistance shred, a Taunt/Stun Decoy and an ally Darkness-damage buff.

Book is Bug's Darkness-team enabler. Dark Burst Activation enhances his Normal Attacks for 10 seconds, and hitting an enemy four times within that window decreases their Darkness Resistance by 15% for 40 seconds. The Rascal drops a Decoy that Taunts enemies in range for 5 seconds while Bug enters Stealth for 10 seconds; when the Decoy expires it explodes and Stuns for 3 seconds — a genuine peel-and-control tool.

His Ultimate, Solo Stage, is a 191% field that applies Curse (a Darkness DoT) and extends the enemy's Darkness Burst duration. That feeds the passive Derision: while an enemy is Cursed, every allied hero attacking it gains +20% Darkness damage. Combined with the −15% Darkness Resistance, Book is a cheap, complete enabler for a dedicated Darkness composition.

Investment

Potential priority

Each path has its own Potential track unlocked with Bug's Potential Points (Exchange Shop, server-capped).

The pattern matches every hero: odd levels (1, 3, 8) are flat Attack / Defense / Max HP — smaller values here because Bug is an SR — and even levels are the meaningful skill amplifiers. Prioritise reaching the amp levels for whichever path you committed to.

Where the value sits

  • Book first (support)If you only ascend one path, Book gives the most team value at SR cost — the Darkness-Resistance shred and the Derision +20% Darkness team buff scale your whole Darkness core, not just Bug.
  • Axe second (self-sufficient)Axe needs no teammate setup beyond a Darkness Burst — the +45% Crit Damage from Troublemaker plus the guaranteed-crit Abyss Smasher window is the highest solo payoff.
  • Dual Swords last (conditional)Only worth deep investment if you can land back attacks reliably; otherwise the Blitz +35% and the Annihilation reset are dead weight.
Weapons & skins

Weapon and gear direction

Bug's compatible weapons and what their passives reward.

Bug's universal pick is Black Flame Wings (activating a Burst → +28% Attack and +6% Crit Chance for 10 sec), available across his weapon types. On a budget SR, Crimson Flame (Burst → +28% Attack) and Jet-black (Ultimate → 20% chance of +50% Crit Chance for 7 sec) are strong, accessible options — Jet-black is especially good on the Axe and Dual Swords crit paths. Note Gluttonous Soul grants Fire damage, which is off-element for an all-Darkness hero — skip it here.

Notable compatible weapons (data-listed)

  • Black Flame WingsActivating a Burst → +28% Attack and +6% Crit Chance for 10 sec. The universal pick across his weapon types.
  • Crimson FlameActivating a Burst → +28% Attack for 10 sec — a strong, accessible option on every path.
  • Jet-blackUsing the Ultimate Move → 20% chance of +50% Crit Chance for 7 sec; excellent on the Axe / Dual Swords crit paths.
  • Ruler of the ForestOn hit → 20% chance to increase a certain skill type's damage by 8% for 15 sec (25 sec cooldown).

Costumes

Bug ships with the default grade-3 Shy Demon costume, a grade-4 skin Demon's Outing, and two grade-5 skins in the data: Shadow Walk and Demon's Stealth. The crafted skin armours carry their own back-attack / Darkness effects (Veiled Darkness, Hour of Darkness, Successive Ambush) — all of which reward the back-attack and crit playstyles his Dual Swords and Axe paths already lean on.

Combined attacks

Best teammates

Bug's own Combined-Attack base is low (191%) — he is an SR, not the carry the combo is built around. The numbers below are each partner's Combined-Attack damage as listed in his data; pair him with a high-payload carry whose damage his Darkness shred and Curse buff amplify.

  1. 1Drake461%Highest listed partner — the carry to build the combo around.
  2. 2Meliodas449%Premium carry most accounts own from launch.

Quick answers

FAQ

Which Bug weapon should I build first?
Book for most accounts — it is the cheapest way to add Darkness-team value: −15% enemy Darkness Resistance plus the Derision +20% ally Darkness damage on Cursed enemies. Build Axe if you want a self-sufficient Crit-Damage bruiser, and Dual Swords only if you can land back attacks reliably for the Blitz +35% and Annihilation reset.
Is Bug worth building as an SR?
Yes for his Darkness-team value. He is free and cheap to ascend, and Book's Resistance shred + Derision buff scale your whole Darkness core while you build toward premium SSRs. Axe is a respectable self-contained bruiser. He is not an endgame damage headliner.
What does the Book path's Curse do?
Solo Stage applies Curse — a Darkness DoT — and extends the enemy's Darkness Burst. While an enemy is Cursed, the passive Derision grants every allied hero attacking it +20% Darkness damage, which is the core reason to bring Book to a Darkness team.
Who is Bug's best Combined-Attack partner?
By the damage values in his data, Drake (461%) is the highest, followed by Meliodas (449%) and King (433%). His own combo base is only 191% — Bug is the support/utility piece, so build the combo around a high-payload carry.
What does his world passive do?
Downsize turns Bug into a small demon that can fly — a traversal/repositioning tool for exploration. It has no combat effect and does not change his damage.
